Kedarkantha Trek

About

Kedarkantha is a prominent winter and summer trek in Garhwal Himalayan region at an elevation of 3,800 mtrs in Govind Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttarkashi District.
The beautiful forests and celestial meadows of Kedarkantha are incomparable. Such idyllic settings are hard to find and this trek offers many such places to camp. One of the best camping spots is “JudaKaTalab”, a wide clearing amidst forest.
One can explore the culture and tradition which people follow in Himalayan villages.
The sights are spectacular with amazing 360 degree views of Swargarohini – I, II, III (6300 meter) Bandar Poonch Peak (6316 meters) and Black Peak (6387 meter) all together. One can also see Rupin & Supin valley, Baraadsar range, Kanasar Lake, Phulara ridge, Bali Pass and Sarutal.

Itinerary

Day 01: Dehradun – Sankri (210 km) (7/8 hrs – 6300 ft.)
We plan for an early morning arrival in Dehradun and start our journey to Sankri. During the journey we pass through the Yamuna and Tons valleys across the Yamuna bridge, Nainbagh, Nowgaon, Purola, Jarmola (one of the biggest and most beautiful pine forests in Asia), Mori and Netwar. Trek to a tiny market in Sankri where few wooden huts serve simple yet delicious food. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel/homestay.

Day 02: Sankri – Jainola (4 km) (3/4 hrs – 8850 ft.)
After breakfast in Sankri start trek to Jainola. Today’s trek is on an even surface through thick forests, with a few waterfalls on the way. After walking for about 3-4 hours reach Jainola campsite. Dinner and overnight stay at Jainola

Day 03: Jainola – Kedarkantha Base Camp (4 km) (3/4 hrs – 11,250 ft.)
After breakfast we start walking. After 1 hour we are at Juda Ka Talaab – a pristine mounain lake. To avoid heavy we do not camp here on day 2. We enter the beautiful forest once again and as we climb higher, the ridge gets steeper. We are treated with small patches of meadows covered with snow making this steep climb easier. Overnight stay at Kedarkantha Base.

Day 04: Kedarkanta Base Camp – Kedarkantha Summit (12,500 ft.) – Jainola (8850 ft.) (4/5hrs)
Start our summit climb early morning at around 2:30-3am. Reach the top and enjoy the most beautiful sunrise of your life. Watch fantastic views of Swargarohini, Har-ki-dun Valley and Kala Nag / Black Peak. Start descending towards Kedarkantha Base. Have breakfast and further descend to Jainola. Overnight at campsite.

Day 05: Jainola – Sankri – Dehardun (4km trek – 3 hours) (200km Drive – 7-8 hours)
Post breakfast descend down to Sankri and board your vehicles. Depart for Dehradun. Reach Dehradun in the evening. Trek ends.
