Hampta Pass Trek

About

Hampta Pass is a dramatic crossovers between Kullu and Spiti Valley. The trek is of moderate difficulty but has amazing views of the Dhauladhar range of mountains. Beautiful campsites like Balu ka Ghera and serene terrain full of meadows and wild flowers are feature of this trek.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Manali

Reach Manali early in the morning. Check in at our base camp in Patlikuhl. You may visit, Pangan Monastery (1.5 hr trek) in the evening for acclimatization. Overnight in Manali. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 2: Manali – Jobra (9800ft – Chikka (10,100ft) [18 km drive, 2 hour | 2 km trek, 45min]

Early morning wake up and have your breakfast. Board our vehicles and drive to Jobra. The drive is scenic and thrilling with 40 hairpin bends. Reach Jobra and get ready to begin your trek. Hoist your backpacks and start walking towards Chikka. Todays trek is short and an easy ascent along the banks of Rani Nallah. Reach Chikka campsite after 45 mins of walking. Have lunch and relax. Overnight in tents. (Breakfast, Lunch, Evening snacks, Dinner)

Day 3: Chikka – Balu ka Ghera (12411ft) [9 km, 6 hours]

Post breakfast, begin your trek. Today we will be crossing boulder patches and meadows. Stay on the left bank  of the river and keep walking on the trail. Enjoy views of the mighty Dhauladhar range behind as you continue walking ahead. After about 2 hours we will reach Jwara which is also a camping ground. After having your packed lunch here, we will move ahead. Walk through patches of wild flowers until we reach Balu Ka Ghera. Overnight in tents. (Breakfast, Lunch, Evening snacks, Dinner)

Day 4: Balu Ka Ghera – Hampta Pass (14,065 ft) – Shea Goru (12,695 ft) [5 km, 8 hours]

Get ready for the most important leg of your trek. Today we will be crossing the Hampta Pass. Post breakfast begin our ascent to the Pass. This moderate ascent will test you as climb upto 14000 ft. Our target is to reach the pass by lunch time. Have lunch at the top and begin a steep descent to Shea Goru. After about 2 hours of descent the trail flattens till you reach Shea Goru. Overnight in tents. (Breakfast, Lunch, Evening snacks, Dinner)

Day 5: Shea Goru – Chhatru (10,700 ft.) – Drive to Chandertaal and back [5 km, 5 hours]

Post breakfast, begin your trek by walking on a rolling terrain of loose rocks and morraine. After about 2 hours of walk descend down till you reach Chhatru. Rest for some time and depart for Chandertaal in our vehicles. the drive is bumpy but worth it once you see the lake. Enjoy clicking pictures at the lake and drive back to Chhatru. Overnight in tents. (Breakfast, Lunch, Evening snacks, Dinner)

Day 6: Chhatru to Manali [85 km, 5 hours]

Post breakfast, board our vehicles and head out to Manali. In case we are not able to visit Chandertaal on day 5 because of weather conditions we will drive to Chandertaal first and then descend down in Manali. Reach Manali by in the afternoon and check in at our campsite. Freshen up and explore the town. Overnight in Manali. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 7: Departure from Manali

Post breakfast check out. Board your buses to Delhi/Chandigarh from Manali bus stand in the evening. (Breakfast)
